Introducing Queens Week

Enjoying three weeks dedicated to celebrating the sights, sounds and tastes of our borough

This May, Queens residents will have a lot more to celebrate than the flowers .

That's because, for the first time ever, the Borough President's office, in partnership with the New York Daily News, the Queens Chamber of Commerce and the Queens Economic Development Council, is sponsoring Queens Week — a smorgasbord of events that highlight the energy that make our borough a unique place to live.

"Queens Week is an exciting time to experience culinary, cultural and business events in America's most diverse county," said Queens Borough president Helen Marshall.

Queens Week officially kicked off with 'Taste of the World,' a gastronomical jubilee hosted at Citi Field on Tuesday. Among the eateries honored at the tasting event was Strawberry's Bar and Grill in Douglaston,  in the entree division for their chili recipe.

The borough-wide festivities will continue until Saturday, May 28, culminating with 'Learn to Ride' at Admiral Playground in Little Neck, where members of the NYC Parks Department will show children and adults how to ride a bike.

"It's a way to market all the great things happening in our borough and allow people in the Rockaways to know what is happening in Bayside and the people of Astoria to know what's happening in Flushing," said Jack Friedman, President of the Queens Chamber of Commerce.

Some highlights of Queens Week include 'Author Talk' with Queens historian Jason Anton on Friday, Farm Fest at the Queens Farm Museum Sunday and the Queens Chamber of Commerce Trade Show at Citi Field on May 24.

"It already looks like Queens Week will be a great success ... I'm confident it will return next year even bigger and better," Friedman said.
