Help Homeless Kids with Operation Backpack

Find drop-off sites for school supplies in Queens.

Every child in New York City should have an opportunity to participate in their local school and, with a little help from their neighbors, they can.

Operation Backpack will take place from July 16 until Aug. 10 and residents who want to drop off backpacks or other school supplies can do so at any Duane Reade in the city.

Duane Reade chain stores in northeast Queens are located at 24-28 Bell Blvd. in Bayside, 249-46 Horace Harding Expressway in Little Neck, 257-09 Union Turnpike in Glen Oaks and 198-15 Horace Harding Expressway in Auburndale.

Supplies can also be dropped off at the offices of Council members Karen Koslowitz (118-35 Queens Blvd., 17th floor in Forest Hills) and Peter Vallone Jr. (22-45 31st St., 2nd floor in Astoria).

Last year, Volunteers of America-Greater New York provided 9,200 filled backpacks to children in need throughout the city.
