Great Escape: Old Bethpage Village

Stepping back in time to experience life in a mid-19th-century America.

It's really not fall without a trip to old Bethpage.

One of Long Island's most untapped resources, Old Bethpage Village quietly sits out in Long Island, a green hamlet full of peace and quiet, begging for a visit.

And though the bad news is the 2011 Long Island Festival was last weekend, the good news is that there are still plenty good weeks of great weather left for picnicking at and touring around the 209-acre restored historic village.

Indeed, the restoration village located at Old Bethpage is one of the most authentic recreations of the colonial village around, with structures transported throughout time and place to help make the historical experience at this 200 plus acre museum, unique unto itself.

The village features numerous farmhouses, a blacksmith shop, general stores, a cobbler, school house, plus several churches for your parusal all a mere minutes away from New York City—not to mention all the old-time snacks, which can really take you back.
