Great Escape: Arthur Murray Dance Studio

Want to dance like they do on "Dancing with the Stars?"

Are you the kind of person who never misses an episode of Dancing with the Stars? Did you ever wish you could dance like that? Well, at , you can learn any dance you desire, from the Cha Cha to the Viennese Waltz to the Polka.

To begin, all you have to do is schedule a free introductory lesson. During that session, your instructor, a professionally trained dancer who has undergone careful training, will determine your particular level. From there, a course will be developed just for you. You will be given private lessons and the opportunity to participate in group classes, so you can work with partners and get to know other students. The length of the course and tuition varies, but they guarantee that you will be able to dance after your first lesson.

There are a variety of programs and levels you can sign up for, from basic, which teaches foot position, rhythm and leading and/or following, to gold, which is strictly for hobbyists interested in performing or competing. Those wanting to get on the dance floor quickly can choose the associate bronze program, which help develop dancer’s characteristics, and those who are interested in dancing socially can sign up for the full bronze or silver programs.

Special programs are also offered to teach couples to dance prior to their wedding. The instructor will even work around your first-dance song.

Arthur Murray Dance Studio’s Bayside location is located at 36-35 Bell Blvd. For more information, call 718-225-2339 or visit www.arthurmurraynyc.com, where you can find coupons and a guide to each of the programs the studio offers.

The local, fresh fruit and vegetable market was a worthwhile addition to Douglaston. Obviously, itRead More did not receive the support of the community, at least not enough to make it a successful venture. This is sad. Every Sunday, rain or shine, I would stop at the market and purchase something. My favorite was the bakery stand. Often, when I stopped in the afternoon I would get two FREE French breads with my purchase. Parking was never a problem. The vendors where friendly and very informative. It was a perfect setting for the picturesque nature of this community. Too bad it is not returning.

Unfortunately, according to the Douglas Manor Association, the fresh fruit and vegetable market willRead More NOT return this year. No specific reason was given other than this was at the initiative of the merchants or the market's organizers. And this..., just as we were beginning to enjoy the Long Island wines and the $34 per pound skirt steak, ordered two months in advance.
