2. Snapper Derby

Where/When: . On Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Why Go: You'll be able to spend some quality time with the kids as they learn to fish. Plus, they could win prizes and a free pizza lunch will be served.

Why Go: The Happenings, a 1960s-era band, will perform their hits during a waterfront performance in Great Neck.

4. Jowell y Randy in Concert

Where/When: Club Soel, 33-02 Queens Blvd. in Long Island City. On Saturday at 10 p.m.

Why Go: Swing over to Long Island City for some live music from this Puerto Rican reggaeton duo.

5. The Wiggles in Westbury

Where/When: NYCB Theatre, 960 Brush Hollow Road, Westbury. On Sunday at 1 p.m.

Why Go: The fab four from down under will reunite and play at Westbury's NCYB Theatre. Tickets are $37.50.

The local, fresh fruit and vegetable market was a worthwhile addition to Douglaston. Obviously, itRead More did not receive the support of the community, at least not enough to make it a successful venture. This is sad. Every Sunday, rain or shine, I would stop at the market and purchase something. My favorite was the bakery stand. Often, when I stopped in the afternoon I would get two FREE French breads with my purchase. Parking was never a problem. The vendors where friendly and very informative. It was a perfect setting for the picturesque nature of this community. Too bad it is not returning.

No specific reason was given other than this was at the initiative of the merchants or the market's organizers. And this..., just as we were beginning to enjoy the Long Island wines and the $34 per pound skirt steak, ordered two months in advance.
