Find Thanksgiving Day Activities in Douglaston

Residents Can Get Out of the House for a Day to Attend Mass, a Movie or a Morning Walk

This Thanksgiving, there will be more than just the traditional turkey dinner and trimmings to attend in Douglaston. If you are not looking to spend all day in the kitchen, eat your way through the day or watch football until you doze off, then these neighborhood activities may be just the thing for you.

1. First Annual Dick Lynch Turkey Trot- Douglaston Road and Knollwood Avenue, Douglaston

The Douglaston Village Chamber of Commerce will host its first ever Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving Day. The 5K walk will be held in honor of the late Dick Lynch, who was a resident of Douglaston and once played as a defensive back for the New York Giants.

Registration for the walk begins at 7:30 a.m. at Memorial Field. Adults are required to pay $20 to walk while children are free.  The race will begin at 9 a.m. at Memorial Field and end at the Manor Market where breakfast will be served.

2. Douglaston Mansion Manor's Thanksgiving Buffet Dinner- 63-20  Commonwealth Blvd., Douglaston

If you're looking for a romantic Thanksgiving, The Douglaston Manor could be the place for you. At 1 p.m., the mansion will begin serving a traditional Thanksgiving buffet dinner, which includes a Tuscan table featuring an array of appetizers, a hot buffet and a carving station for entrees such as slow roasted turkey, Mediterranean Sea bass, grilled pork loin, prime rib and glazed smoked ham.

The Viennese Table of desserts will offer traditional Thanksgiving pies, a chocolate fountain, a few Italian desserts and numerous other sweet treats. Adult plates are $37.95 and children are $20 per plate.  Dinner ends at 6 p.m.. Reservations are required and can be made by calling 718-224-8787.

3. Movie World at Douglaston- 242-02 61st Ave., Douglaston.

What is better than a good movie after a great meal?  Located in the Douglaston Plaza Shopping Center, Movie World screens most of the latest releases and is offering special prices on Thanksgiving. Matinee hours are extended and everyone pays $6.50 admission before 5 p.m.. The theater will open at 11:45 a.m. and close at 11:30 p.m.

4.Veranda's Restaurant & Café- Thanksgiving Meals- 208-01 Northern Blvd., Bayside

Veranda's Restaurant & Café will offer five seatings on Thanksgiving: noon to 2 p.m., 2:30 to 4:40 p.m., 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. and 10 p.m. to 11 p.m.. Customers will have the option of two or three course dinners. Menu includes traditional roasted turkey and all its trimmings for $28 or a Fillet Mignon dinner special for $35. Items from the eatery's regular menu are also available. Reservations are required. Call 718-281-CAFE.

5. St. Robert Bellarmine Church, located at 56-15 213th St. in Oakland Gardens, will hold a Thanksgiving Mass from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. The church will hand out blessed loaves of bread that attendees can add to their dinner menus. St. Anastasia Church, at 45-14 245th St in Douglaston, will hold its Mass at 8:30 a.m.
