The latest in transit delays due to inclement weather, the debut of a new local parenting resource and Chuck, the noblest of groundhogs (and our 'new' best friend)

Happy Groundhog's Day, readers! Today's the day when NYC's own Staten Island Chuck decides whether we're in for six more weeks of snow drifts, cold temps or, as is the case this a.m., thick coatings of treacherous ice. 

And for those trying to game Chuck's chances of seeing his shadow, take heed: the forecast calls for freezing rain to give way to rain later this morning, with nary a peek of sun in sight. 

So don't let us down today, Chuck.

1. An ice storm warning is in effect until 9 a.m. Give yourself plenty of extra travel time to get to your destination this morning.

2. For the Long Island Railroad Web siteWith sleet and freezing rain through this morning, Feb. 2, the LIRR will operate on a weekend timetable during the AM rush as a result of the effects of the storm on the tracks and equipment.

3. As for area bus lines, check mta.info for updates. As of 5:30 a.m., there were no reports of major delays on Little Neck routes.
