Family to Establish Foundation for Fajir Javid

9-year-old Fajir Javid drowned one year ago during a camping trip. Her family wants to prevent the same thing from happening to others.

Last week, we covered the held in honor of three students at P.S. 221, each of whom died in separate tragedies in the past year.

In the article, we mentioned the foundations being established for Alexandra Falabella and Steven Petillo. Later, we were contacted by Fajir Javid's family to let us know that a foundation is in the works for her, too.

Though the foundation is only in its fledgling stages, Fajir's mother, Amna Javid, told us via email that the organization will focus on teaching children to swim. This skill is of particular importance to the Javid family, as Fajir drowned last summer during a camping trip at Wilderness Lake in Willington, Ct.
