It was a busy week in Douglaston.

Four of the top stories involved local crimes, two of which were in Douglaston. It was also a strong week for the arts as we posted articles on the Academy Awards, a local play and a neighborhood filmmaker.

Former state Sen. Frank Padavan made a rare public appearance and Udalls Cove Preservation Committee President Walter Mugdan unveiled his latest installment of his environmental column, "The Conservation Conversation."

Monday
District 26 could lose as many as 15 teachers as part of a citywide plan for school layoffs.  Also, Walter Mugdan posted his latest column for "The Conservation Conversation" and I put in my two cents on this week's film releases as well as Sunday's Academy Awards.

Tuesday
Frank Padavan was honored by a Queens Village Republican club and one of our Patch contributors gave the rundown on a performance of "Independence" at Zion Episcopal Church.  A Queens man is accused of bilking a potential home buyer by using her money to renovate a home in Bellerose, while a Little Neck resident pleads guilty to scamming a charity.

Wednesday
Local filmmaker Elana Mugdan talks about the debut of her latest short film. The 111th Precinct's captain said police have a 'person of interest' in a February robbery at the 7-Eleven on Northern Boulevard.

Thursday
A Douglaston man is accused of stealing a livery cab, driving drunk and crashing the vehicle into a pole. 

Friday
