Read the Top Stories Taking Place in Your Community

This week's stories focused on empowerment and improvement - from a Douglaston women's network that celebrated its second year or the mayor's approval to remove aging light fixtures in city schools to community leaders calling for a dilapidated section of Shore Road to be fixed up.

There was also an emphasis on arts this week. On Friday, we posted a story on the Douglaston Community Theatre Board and, on Saturday we put up our Academy Awards predictions.
