Douglaston Duo Goes Skin Deep

Beth and Barry Cohen operate online beauty product and organic nutritional supplement company.

For more than 10 years, Douglaston health and beauty enthusiasts Beth and Barry Cohen have been providing northeast Queens residents with skin care solutions, health and nutrition education and beauty products.

The couple founded Cohen International, which offers a combination of skin care products backed by some of the country’s leading manufactures and provides a variety of cutting edge beauty products and 100 percent organic nutritional supplements.

Their business, which is conducted mostly online and via telephone, carries "prestige" skin care brands, such as Artistry, which is one of the top sponsors of the Miss America competition.

“Our products are very simple,” said Beth Cohen. “The concept is to provide skin care solutions for all skin types, but also focus on those with problem skin.”

With a specifically designed machine called the Skin Analyzer Magnifier, the Cohens conduct sessions on their clients that enable them to see under the outside layer of the skin.

After careful assessment, the Cohens then treat half of the face with products from one of the three lines they carry - the Artistry essentials, Time Defiance or Sensitive Skin Care - and determine which product best suits that person’s needs.

The client then goes back under the machine to see the before and after transformation.

“This is always incredible to witness and amazing for the client to see,” Beth Cohen said.

The online company carries cleansers, moisturizers, toners and supplemental anti-aging products, but also a Vitamin C with Wild Yam cream that the couple insists is "unique."

The cream, which is a best seller for the Douglaston-based company, creates a potent blend of vitamins that is active for 30 days and produces "results you can really see," Cohen said.

And the company's Time Defiance line of skin care is an “alternative to Botox and plastic surgery,” she said.

This product works on a cellular level to diminish the signs of aging. It consists of a combination of products that, when used together, radiate the skin and transform the person using it.

“Our goal is to assist with resolving skin care issues so the customer looks and feels better in a very cost effective way,” Cohen said.

Most of the skin care products offered by Cohen International cost more than $40.

In addition to the line of skin care, the husband and wife duo also specializes in health and nutrition products that are all backed by Nutrilite, the originators of certified organic supplements.

Beth Cohen said the complete line of products are grown in organic soil and contain no fillers or pesticides. Among the most popular products are the Perfect Drinking Water and Flavored Water, which come in pomegranate, fruit punch and citrus. All of the drinks contain zero calories.

The Cohens' line of energy drinks, known as XS, are all sugar-free and contain less than 10 calories. Each can is packed with B Vitamins.

Cohen International also offers complimentary health assessments as well as assists with weight loss and weight management issues. Their niche is offering personalized services and products that come with six-month guarantees.

“You don’t have to pay the highest price to get the best products,” Beth Cohen said.
