The city originally shut down the beach on June 5 due to "elevated bacteriological counts and swimming [and] bathing are not permitted," DOH spokeswoman Zoe Tobin said.

The agency closes city beaches if the bacteria count caused by storm water runoff and combined sewer overflow potentially pose a public health risk.

It was unclear when Douglas Manor Beach was scheduled to reopen.
