More than 8,500 Con Ed workers were still locked out Wednesday following a recent breakdown in talks between the workers and the utility, NY 1 reported.
he utility's contract with Local 1-2 expired at midnight on June 30. Con Ed then locked out its workers after negotiations broke down between the union and the utility.
The union has cited several issues, including pensions and health care, for the walkout.
Currently, an estimated 5,000 Con Ed managers are operating its system and responding to emergencies, the utility said. Contract negotiations were expected to resume on Wednesday, according to NY 1.
