Day Tripper: Brooklyn Heights

Visit the Transit Museum, take a walk over the Brooklyn Bridge and stroll along the promenade.

Between keeping within your budget and scheduling time off from work, planning a vacation can be stressful.

Start your day with a bite of lunch at Iris Café, a coffee house that also serves breakfast items, cookies, biscuits, salads and a variety of sandwiches, including roast beef, avocado, French dip and ham.

2:30 p.m.

Stop by the New York Transit Museum, which is located at the corner of Boerum Place and Schermerhorn Street.

The museum, which is housed in a 1936 subway station, offers tours, educational programs and workshops as well as several ongoing exhibits, including “Steel, Stone and Backbone,” which recalls the creation of New York City’s subway system.

4:30 p.m.

Walk over the Brooklyn Bridge and then take a stroll along the Brooklyn Heights Promenade, where you’ll find great views of the Statue of Liberty, East River, Manhattan skyline and Manhattan Bridge.

The promenade, which has been featured in “Annie Hall” and a number of classic movie scenes, is lined with benches, playgrounds, flowers and trees.

6:30 p.m.

Finish your day with dinner at Colonie, a popular neighborhood restaurant that features a daily oyster offering, soups and salads, vegetable dishes, a variety of seafood items, pork chops, duck leg, skirt steak, cheese plates and desserts.
