CB 11 Will Review Variances for Two Gas Stations, Animal Hospital in October

Board will hold public hearings on all three variances during upcoming meeting.

It’s going to be another evening filled with public hearings when Community Board 11 reviews variances for two gas stations and an animal hospital in October.

The board will next meet at 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 1 at Bayside’s M.S. 158, located at 46-35 Oceania St.

Little Neck’s Gulf Gas Station, located at 260-09 Nassau Blvd., is applying to renew its variance to operate in a residential zone.

A similar public hearing will be held for Citgo Gas Station on the Horace Harding Expressway.

The evening’s third hearing will be for a variance to allow an animal hospital, located at 204-18 46th Ave., to operate in a residential zone.

Those interested in speaking during one of the public hearings should call 718-225-1054. Residents who want to speak during the meeting’s public participation section should call the board by Sept. 28.

Last month, CB 11 voted in favor of variances for Bayside’s Prela Auto Repair and Douglaston’s CVS Pharmacy as well as approved a permit for Massage Envy to operate on Bell Boulevard.

CB 11 covers Bayside, Douglaston and Little Neck.

The local, fresh fruit and vegetable market was a worthwhile addition to Douglaston. Obviously, itRead More did not receive the support of the community, at least not enough to make it a successful venture. This is sad. Every Sunday, rain or shine, I would stop at the market and purchase something. My favorite was the bakery stand. Often, when I stopped in the afternoon I would get two FREE French breads with my purchase. Parking was never a problem. The vendors where friendly and very informative. It was a perfect setting for the picturesque nature of this community. Too bad it is not returning.

Unfortunately, according to the Douglas Manor Association, the fresh fruit and vegetable market willRead More NOT return this year. No specific reason was given other than this was at the initiative of the merchants or the market's organizers. And this..., just as we were beginning to enjoy the Long Island wines and the $34 per pound skirt steak, ordered two months in advance.
