Burnt Fuse Causes Power Outage in Little Neck Plaza

Centre Pizza and Little Neck Wine & Liquor remain in the dark.

A burnt electrical wire has left many businesses in Little Neck Plaza without power. 

The fire department arrived on the scene around 11:30 a.m. after receiving reports from business owners that they smelled smoke. Fire personnel shut off power to multiple businesses in the strip, including  and . 

Firefighters on the scene said the cause of the outage is unknown, but is likely due to high electricity use.

Bob Asburn, the property manager for KimCo, which owns Little Neck Plaza, said that power won't be restored until Con-Edison arrives and completes a walk-through of the area. 

Asburn said he has no idea how long it will be before power is restored to the businesses.

"It could be hours, it could be days," he said. 

Employees at Centre Pizza said they are doing what they can to keep their food cool. Until power is restored, they said they are trying to sell as much as they can, which may be difficult in the now dark and increasingly warm restaurant.

Power remains on at Starbucks and Panera.
