UPDATE: Con Ed Reducing Power in Northeast Queens

Utility will reduce voltage in Douglaston and Little Neck.

UPDATE: June 21, 8:30 a.m.: Con Edison announced that it has reduced voltage in a number of northeast Queens neighborhoods, including Douglaston, Douglas Manor, Little Neck, Bayside and Auburndale.

Con Edison has reduced voltage in 18 neighborhoods in Queens due to equipment problems.

Almost all of the affected neighborhoods were confined to the southeast Queens area, with Middle Village and Forest Hills as the exceptions to the rule.

In a press release, Con Edison said the following areas would be impacted by the reduction.

  • Glen Oaks
  • Floral Park
  • Bellerose
  • Queens Village
  • Bellaire
  • Holliswood
  • Hollis
  • St. Albans
  • Cambria Heights
  • Laurelton
  • Springfield Gardens
  • Jamaica
  • South Jamaica
  • Jamaica Hills
  • Glendale
  • Forest Hills
  • Forest Hills Gardens
  • Middle Village

The action has been taken to protect other equipment and maintain service while the problems are resolved, Con Ed said.

Residents are being asked to conserve electricity by turning off non-essential devices such as TVs, computers, air conditioners, washers, dryers, and microwaves.
