Braunstein to Host Mother's Day Essay and Poetry Contest

Participants should send in an essay no later than May 10.

Assemblyman Edward Braunstein, D-Bayside, is sponsoring a Mother’s Day essay and poetry contest for students in grades two through five.

Braunstein will hand out prizes to one winner from each grade as well as New York State Assembly certificates of merit for all participants.

Those interested in entering the contest should print their name, grade and school information and submit an essay to Braunstein’s office, which is located at 213-33 39th Ave., Suite 238, Bayside, NY 11361.

Essays can also be emailed to braunsteine@assembly.state.ny.us or faxes to 718-357-5947. The deadline to enter the contest is May 10.

There is no length requirement for submissions. The subject of the piece should be “Why My Mother is So Special to Me.”

“Mother’s Day provides a great opportunity for children to show their appreciation for the many things that mothers do, while at the same time strengthening their writing skills,” Braunstein said.
