Bites Nearby: Cooking With Jazz

Local restaurant serving up Creole cuisine with a flare of culture and spice.

Summer's out but the saints are always marching in at Cooking with Jazz.

The Creole cuisine swings off the plate to the fork, with classics dishes like Chicken & Andouille Gumbo, Chicken Etouffe (chicken smothered in a rich brown roux) and Blackened Fish that's always market fresh.

For the more advanced creolers, the menu at Cooking with Jazz also offers some rare finds this far from the Mississippi, with creative confections like Stuffed Coho Salmon (farm-fresh fish filled with caramelized veggie seafood dressing) and Seafood Big Mamou (chunks of seafood in a spicy sweet red sauce, tossed over fusilli).

The best menu option at this place is definitely the Chicken Tchopitoulas Street, which is half a boneless chicken roulade, baked and served on top of mushrooms, Tasso ham and potato, finished With Béarnaise sauce.

Also, don't forget about the rolls, arguably the best in New York City.
