Bites Nearby: Baby Ray's

Welcoming the newest member of the College Point restaurant scene.

Holy NKOTB! Baby Ray's in College Point may be a new comer to the Queens culinary scene, but it is quickly becoming a top contender among the best restaurants around.

Formerly the Five Corners restaurant, Baby Ray's still boasts the classic German-style décor (i.e., cozy fireplace, stained glass chandeliers, and hand painted flowers on the rafters).

However, with a completely revamped menu, this College Point cuccina has certainly reinvented itself.

Serving up incredible offerings like the Thai Calamari—a sweet and tangy version of the classic calamari drizzled with an oyster-teriyaki sauce—Baby Rays is definitely a must-try kind of place.

The lump crab cake is super sized and incredible, the ribs are fall-off-the-bone good, and the surf and turf, which features prime cuts of beef and market fresh sea food, rivals that of any other great steak house.

Finally, those looking for a good old fashioned slice of slow roasted prime rib, stewed in its own juices and then served with sides of creamed spinach and garlic mashed potatoes, need look no further than Baby Ray's.

Just be sure to make a reservation if you plan to make a trip to Baby Ray's on either Friday or Saturday evening, because it's known to fill up fast.

Baby Rays is located at 13-46 127th st., in College Point—for reservations call (917) 563-5352.

The local, fresh fruit and vegetable market was a worthwhile addition to Douglaston. Obviously, itRead More did not receive the support of the community, at least not enough to make it a successful venture. This is sad. Every Sunday, rain or shine, I would stop at the market and purchase something. My favorite was the bakery stand. Often, when I stopped in the afternoon I would get two FREE French breads with my purchase. Parking was never a problem. The vendors where friendly and very informative. It was a perfect setting for the picturesque nature of this community. Too bad it is not returning.

Unfortunately, according to the Douglas Manor Association, the fresh fruit and vegetable market willRead More NOT return this year. No specific reason was given other than this was at the initiative of the merchants or the market's organizers. And this..., just as we were beginning to enjoy the Long Island wines and the $34 per pound skirt steak, ordered two months in advance.
