New Year's Resolutions for 2012

Patch picks five things to give up starting Sunday.

As we all know, it's not easy being a quitter!

Especially when it comes to smoking, drinking, over eating and... insert any other resolution you've yet to keep.

Still, there are some easy New Years resolutions that people can pick to quit this year that are entirely all too feasible.

We compiled a list of some suggestions people may want to give up in 2012 that will likely not be missed.

1. Reclining in an Airplane Seat

Let's face it, the extra quarter inch of space you get reclining your seat an extra one-fourth of a degree means a lot more to the person sitting behind you. Besides, how much time do you really spend flying? This one just seems like a no-brainer.

2. Doomsday Predictions

First, Harold Camping predicted the end of the world would take place on May 21, 1988. And then, Sept. 6, 1994. And then May 21, 2011. And then Oct. 21, 2011. Now, the date Doomsdayers have in sight is Dec. 21, 2012, which is the end date of a long cycle in the Mesoamerican Long Count calendar. When nothing happens that day, I'm sure we'll have a new date on which to focus in 2013.

3. Reading Into Political Polls for the 2012 Election

We know voters on both sides of the aisles likely feel strongly about specific candidates winning or losing. But, seriously - the election is 11 months away, so any polls being taken on how Americans plan to vote during any given week should be taken with a grain of salt.

4. Texting While Walking (But Also Driving, Shopping, Etc.)

For the past few years, we've heard people complaining about cell phone users loudly blathering on city sidewalks, but little did they know what was yet to come - texting while walking. We have yet to see two people walk smack into each other, but it's going to happen. Unless it's urgent, save that text for when you're not navigating the city's streets on foot.

5. Giving Up Giving Things Up on New Year's Eve

Each and every one of us have room for improvement, so while you may think you're being clever telling everyone you meet on New Year's Eve that this year you're giving up giving things up, trust us, it's been done. So, just pick something easy and run with it!

What are you giving up this year? Please tell us in the comments below.

Happy New Year!!
