Bayside Historical Society to Host Totten Trot on Oct. 28

Five-mile race through Fort Totten will raise money for historical society.

The Bayside Historical Society is hosting its 11th annual five-mile Totten Trot on Oct. 28.

Runners will begin checking in next to Fort Totten’s castle, located at 208 Totten Ave., at 7:30 a.m. The race will kick off at 9 a.m. and follow a waterfront course along Little Neck Bay throughout the fort.

“We are thrilled by the increase in participants every year,” said Carol Marian, the race’s coordinator and the historical society’s treasurer. “I think more and more people are finding that there is no other race quite like this one. I can think of no other event that provides the same type of atmosphere – a waterfront course through an historic district followed by a celebration in a beautiful New York City landmarked building.”

First, second and third place awards will be handed out during a ceremony in the castle following the run, which raises funds for the historical society’s programs.

An estimated 100 runners, some of whom will be in costume, will participate.
