Bayside Hills to Host 9/11 Remembrance

Local residents plan special tribute to victims of the September 11th terror attacks.

The Bayside Hills Civic Association will conduct a 9-11 ceremony, this Sunday, September 11, 7:00 p.m., at the 9-11 Memorial located at Bell Boulevard and the Long Island Expressway service road.

Among those expected to attend are Claudia Filomena, Queens Borough Director for the Community Affairs Unit at the Mayor's office, Patrick Lynch, president of the Patrolmen's Benevolent Association of New York City, and the 111th Precinct’s executive officers.

“Once again we have invited numerous illustrious guests,” said Michael Feiner, president of the Bayside Hills Civic Association.

Sunday’s ceremony, which will feature an interfaith service conducted by Reverend Monsignor Martin T. Geraghty of St. Robert Bellarmine and Rabbi Michael Ehrlich of the Oakland Jewish Center, will also have on display two pieces of steel artifacts from the World Trade Center courtesy of the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey.

“The remembrance will honor the 343 firefighters, 60 NYPD and Port Authority police officers and 8 private emergency medical technicians and paramedics who gave their lives on that day. But we will also remember the 184 people killed during the terror attack on the Pentagon as well as the 44 victims on United Airlines Flight 93,” Feiner said.

Acknowledging that the overwhelming majority of casualties suffered on 9-11 were civilians, including nationals of over 70 countries, Feiner stressed that his group plans to honor all those who died during the terrorist attack on September 11, 2001.

“Sunday’s service will pay our respects to all of the brave souls,” Feiner said.

Those who wish to attend Sunday's ceremony are invited to the 9-11 Memorial located along the Horace Harding Expressway at the Bell Boulevard intersection and reminded to bring memorial candles to light during the ceremony.
