Bayside Church to Host Interactive Murder Mystery Theater Production

Guests will get an Italian dinner and a chance to catch a killer.

Bayside’s All Saints Episcopal Church wants local residents’ assistance in locating a murderer.

The church, located at 214-35 40th Ave., is hosting its first-ever murder mystery theater production on Oct. 20 at 7 p.m.

“A Séance in Bayside,” which is being produced by local Beari Productions, is an interactive whodunit, said Father Laurence Byrne.

“It’s a murder mystery where the audience witnesses the deed and tries to guess who the murderer is,” Byrne said. “It’s a participatory experience. It should be a lot of fun.”

The show will also include an Italian dinner and a few raffles. Byrne said the production was one of several recent events to celebrate the church’s 120th anniversary.

“It’s a fundraiser,” he said of the murder mystery. “We’re trying to raise some capital funds, so we can repair the roofs on our parish house and do some other maintenance.”

The church’s fundraising goal is $120,000 of which an estimated $40,000 has been raised so far through a golf outing and recent festival.

All Saints will next host a dinner dance in November and its 70th annual Holly Bizarre on Dec. 1. That event will include crafts, Christmas trees and a luncheon.

For more information on the church’s events, call 718-229-5631.

The local, fresh fruit and vegetable market was a worthwhile addition to Douglaston. Obviously, itRead More did not receive the support of the community, at least not enough to make it a successful venture. This is sad. Every Sunday, rain or shine, I would stop at the market and purchase something. My favorite was the bakery stand. Often, when I stopped in the afternoon I would get two FREE French breads with my purchase. Parking was never a problem. The vendors where friendly and very informative. It was a perfect setting for the picturesque nature of this community. Too bad it is not returning.

Unfortunately, according to the Douglas Manor Association, the fresh fruit and vegetable market willRead More NOT return this year. No specific reason was given other than this was at the initiative of the merchants or the market's organizers. And this..., just as we were beginning to enjoy the Long Island wines and the $34 per pound skirt steak, ordered two months in advance.
