Aug. 26: Five Things You Need to Know Today

Some hurricane-related items to start your Friday.

1. Well, there's a hurricane coming. Her name is Irene, and she's clocking in at Category 3 (the highest is 5.)

2. In light of this, Gov. Andrew Cuomo has declared New York in a state of emergency. This means that many state agencies, notably the MTA and DOT, will be adjusting their normal operations in preparation of the storm.

3. Many area residents, however, remain nonplussed about the weather, and for the most part carried out business as usual at the Little Neck Stop & Shop on Thursday.
