All Star Lineup To Help Celebrate Douglaston Community Day

Strawberry's Grill will mark one year anniversary with several superstars from '86 World Series Mets.

Get ready to meet the Mets because this Saturday, August 13, Strawberry's Grill will host a star studded extravaganza full of food, fun, entertainment and a special meet and greet with some of the players from the 1986 Mets team.

To help celebrate the restaurant’s one year anniversary, Strawberry’s is bringing in some heavy hitters with special guest hosts and former New York Mets Dwight 'Doc' Gooden, Kevin Mitchell, Barry Lyons, Terry Leach and of course Daryl Strawberry.

And the Douglaston Chamber of Commerce, which is co-sponsoring the event, could not be any more excited.

“It's going to be incredible and we're thrilled to be a part of such a wonderful event,” said chamber president Dorothy Matinale of .

Also going to be on hand to assist with the festivities will be New York Giant Sean Landeta and Joey Fatone of NSYNC and Dancing with the Stars.

"Our goal is to encourage the community to eat local, shop local, and stay local. So hopefully this Saturday will get people to see the Douglaston Village in a whole new way," Matinale said.

With heaps of give-aways, lots of freebies, and tons of concessions from nearby Douglaston shops, Saturday will be a chance for many local businesses to showcase all they have to offer.

“AmYours will be there, Il Toscana, and of course Strawberry’s Grill," Matinale said.”We want people to realize that we have everything they need right here," she added.

The party starts at 11 a.m. in front of Strawberry's Sports Grill, near the Douglaston Train Station, with raffles taking place throughout the day.

Among the prizes people can win will be a brand new $450.00 bike courtesy of , as well as gift certificates to some great local restaurants.

But Matinale was quick to point out that Saturday is not just about having fun and eating some "great food."

"All the proceeds will go to support the Daryl Strawberry Foundation To Fight Autism, as well as several other local charities and little league organizations," she said.

Though she stressed there will be plenty of 'water wars,' mini-hoops and batting cages, to go around.

"We may even have competitions like 'Can you throw faster that Doc' or 'Hit further than Daryl.' You never know," Matinale said.
