Bayside H.S. Parents need to know and get involved!

While I address the issue at Bayside High School, this is problematic across our high schools and coming from the DOE. Lets first survey the situation at the NYC DOE. This being an election year has our Chancellor in a lame duck position. While I Dennis Walcott a responsible individual, the Mayor is on the way out and not looking too good for the prospective winning candidates.
So what is going on?? More like what is NOT going on specifically in terms of operating funds or the elusive budget funding!!! There isn't one and school opens tomorrow!!! The impact is the school is paralyzed and they have received several questions as to why actual programs were not distributed to the students this past week. This was discussed at the orientation meetings. Bayside HS did not receive funding it was expecting to receive and thus, they had to make last-minute cuts. This is why staff members are working over the holiday on fixing programs so that the students will receive them on Monday.
A large portion of this funding is based upon filling out LUNCH FORMS. These forms help the school to earn extra dollars to make your experience at Bayside a great one with a wide range of classes and activities. We are asking students to do the following in preparation for Monday:

1. Share the PTA Letter with your parents/guardians, which gives them more details about the budget situation.
2. Ask your parents to complete this year's lunch form and return it to your guidance counselor during your scheduled guidance meeting.

When filling out the form, please do not check the "I do not qualify" box -- you may qualify and not even realize it, and besides, every completed form helps the school to secure more funding for its programs.
A letter has been sent to the Chancellor, and DOE Finance about the issue and no response has been received as of yet!
I hope to have the CB-11 Community Board & the Educational Committee address these issues but parents need to stand up and speak out so the DOE will hear you and show some responsibility to answer you! CB11 meeting is tomorrow night!

We’ve removed the ability to reply as we work to make improvements. Learn more here
