Which Northeast Queens Business Do You Miss Most?

Patch wants to know which Bayside, Douglaston or Little Neck business you were saddest to see go.

Nothing lasts forever, especially during a prolonged economic slump.

In December 2009, Bell Boulevard's popular First Edition bar and restaurant, which first opened in 1948, permanently shuttered its doors.

Nearly one year later, Little Neck's long-standing and, in February 2011, Little Neck Luncheonette .

Other local businesses lost during the past few years include Bayside's and the Douglaston Market, which after receiving numerous violations from the city's Department of Health.

Patch wants to know: Which local business that closed during the past few years do you miss most? Do you believe that other businesses have opened in northeast Queens that have made up for the services lost by those closures?

Also, be sure to list any closed businesses not mentioned above and tell us what it was that you believe made that place special.

The local, fresh fruit and vegetable market was a worthwhile addition to Douglaston. Obviously, itRead More did not receive the support of the community, at least not enough to make it a successful venture. This is sad. Every Sunday, rain or shine, I would stop at the market and purchase something. My favorite was the bakery stand. Often, when I stopped in the afternoon I would get two FREE French breads with my purchase. Parking was never a problem. The vendors where friendly and very informative. It was a perfect setting for the picturesque nature of this community. Too bad it is not returning.

Unfortunately, according to the Douglas Manor Association, the fresh fruit and vegetable market willRead More NOT return this year. No specific reason was given other than this was at the initiative of the merchants or the market's organizers. And this..., just as we were beginning to enjoy the Long Island wines and the $34 per pound skirt steak, ordered two months in advance.
