Two Eateries, Shoe Shop Set for Fall Opening on Bell Boulevard

Bayside BID's executive director says commercial strip has less than a 5 percent vacancy rate.

Bell Boulevard shoppers should keep their eyes out this fall for several new retailers and eateries that are expected to open along the commercial strip, the Bayside BID’s executive director said.

In the next few months, a French bistro, a men’s casual sneaker store and Beer Belly’s, which will replace Cascarino’s, are expected to debut along the boulevard.

In recent weeks, two new eateries – Thai 101 and Yogurtland – opened between 39th and 40th Avenues and another long-time shop – Bell Family Jewelers – underwent a complete redesign.

Lyle Sclair, the executive director for the Bayside Village Business Improvement District, said that the commercial strip has a vacancy rate as low as three our four percent.

“I think people are coming back to Bell,” he said. “It’s known as one of the great destinations not only in Queens, but in New York City. We’re very fortunate that there are very few vacancies on Bell Boulevard. It makes it a little bit more challenging to find new businesses because there’s not much space for them.”

Sclair said the BID did not have particular types of businesses it was trying to lure to its vacant sites. Rather, the group was hoping to find stores that would compliment the existing shops and restaurants.

“We want people to know this is a walkable area,” he said. “So, we’re looking for stores that promote strolling.”
