This Week In Little Neck Gas Prices

Why is gasoline so expensive?

Ouch, feels like price gouging.

Consumers at the pump pay  a hefty toll to fuel their vehicles. Patch decided to look into what accounts for the high prices of fuel across Little Neck.

What exactly are you paying for ?

 1. Price of crude: In a gallon of unleaded, crude accounts for $1.45 of today's average price of $2.68 at the pump.

2. Price of refining:  Just 55 cents of the price is the cost of refining that oil into a usable concoction of hydro-carbons like benzene, toluene, napthaline, and trimethylbenzene.

3. Price of transportation: Just 5 cents a gallon.

4. Price of doing business: Taxes -  18 cents for the federal government and 27 cents for state governments.

As consumers, we are paying a lot of money to fuel our vehicles without a chance for reprieve in the future.
