Sweet Tooth Haven Lazar's to Close at Bay Terrace

Chocolatier Celebrates Final Valentine's Day in Queens with Smorgasbord of Delectables

For the past 13 years, Lazar’s Chocolate has been a Queens sweet tooth hot spot at the Bay Terrace Shopping Center.

But, this year’s Valentine’s Day will be the last in Bay Terrace for the shop as the chocolatier plans to close its store on March 1. The company’s other stores in Great Neck and Greenvale will remain open.

The Lazar family recipe, which has been famous for more than 80 years, originated in Europe.  Grandpa David Lazar brought his secrets to downtown Manhattan, where he founded Eee-Laine Chocolates of Corland Street and Evelyn’s Chocolates on John Street.

The smell of chocolate upon entering Lazar’s Bay Terrace site is instantly intoxicating and will leave you hungry for a taste of the chocolatier’s assorted confections.

For Valentine’s Day, Lazar’s is allowing customers to choose their own assortment from its showcases. They have many hearts in all different sizes made of milk, dark, or white chocolate.

Patrons can create a unique gift by personalizing their own chocolate bar wrapper.

The shelves are packed with boxes of chocolate in every shape and size, from satiny soft creams to delightful fruits, fancy truffles, marzipan, French chocolate rum and meltaways. The list goes on and on.

Offerings include everything from individual boxes of heart-shaped confections to chocolate stop signs declaring “I’ll Never Stop Loving You” or “I’m Your Prisoner of Love.” Also on display are heart shaped lollipops, bouquets of chocolate roses and milk and dark chocolate hearts.

For special diets, Lazar’s provides dietetic chocolate confections with no sugar or salt. The store also makes specialty gift boxes, gift baskets, platters, party favors and corporate orders.
