Mizumi Opens at Former Seville Site

Sushi Buffet Debuts in Old Douglaston Diner's Locale

Douglaston has another new dining destination – Mizumi, a sushi and seafood buffet restaurant that takes "all you can eat" to another realm.

The buffet opened this month at the site of the former P&B's Seville diner site, located at 231-10 Northern Blvd.

The casual, modern eatery features traditional and "reinvented" Asian cuisines, as well as western classics prepared and choreographed by executive chef Jeffrey Moon.

Owner Edward Chang and his wife, Marianne, raised the roof on the Seville Diner, elevated the concept of the buffet to a new level and updgraded the building's décor.

"I wanted to offer a truly fine menu and dining experience," said Chang, who also operates several eateries in Flushing.

Ken Chang, a third-generation restaurateur in the family added, "We don't cut any corners – we cut costs with our vendors."

The variety of selections is vast – the menu is rotated and not all dishes are available at one time. But dozens of selections from its repertoire of some 75 sushi creations are continually replenished.

The same is true for the more than 30 possible cold entrees, salads and "chef's mini-presentations."

Choices from more than 50 possible hot entrees run the gamut of fish, shellfish, beef, chicken and vegetarian dishes – from Korean and Japanese specialties to sliders.

Mizumi offers more than 20 desserts and pastries, including items as All-American as funnel cake, as continental as Tiramisu and as exotic as a green tea mousse as well as plenty of chocolate choices.

Lunch is from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Monday through Friday for $17.95. On weekends, it's from 11:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. for $21.95.

Dinner is from 5:50 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. on Monday through Friday for $28.95. On weekends, it's from 5:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. for $31.95.

Children, ages 12-years-old and under, pay a fraction of the adult price. The schedule of hours and prices is posted at the door.

The parking lot at Mizumi, which is across the street from the Alley Pond golf driving range, can accommodate 100 cars.

For the time being, only soft drinks are being served at the restaurant but they are anticipating receipt of the Liquor License renewal by the end of the year, according to daughter-in-law Janet Chang.

Parties of up to 45 persons can be arraigned in advance for the "event space," she said.
