Mixed Martial Arts Studio to Open on 235th Street

Team Kralj expected to debut in mid-April, co-owner says.

The second new business in a month is set to open along 235th Street following in early March.

Team Kralj, a mixed martial arts studio, is currently setting up shop at 40-35 235th St. and plans to open in mid-April, said Hrvoje Kralj, who co-owns the business with his brother, Kresinir.

“We saw this place and it seemed like a nice spot,” Hrvoje Kralj said. “There’s a local school across the street. We think we can teach students respect, self-confidence, integrity, discipline and the basic tenets of Tae Kwon Do. Douglaston is a family community and we’re a family business.”

The studio will be lodged between and .

Classes at the center will include kickboxing, Jujitsu, Tae Kwon Do and physical fitness courses. Team Kralj will offer programs for children and adults.

The business will be the second one to open within a month along Douglaston Village’s 235th Street, where several storefronts have sat vacant during the past few years.

In early March, bakery Giftalicious on the other side of the Long Island Rail Road tracks to its new site at 40-39 235th St.

The Douglaston Village Chamber of Commerce could not be immediately reached for comment on the new businesses opening along the neighborhood’s commercial strip.
