Mega Yard Sale to Include 25 Douglas Manor Homes

Part of event's proceeds will go toward improving local environment, sale's coordinator says.

A total 25 houses will take part in this year’s , which is being held May 5 in Douglas Manor, the event’s coordinator said.

Maps of the participating homes will be available at , and during the sale, which will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., said Carol Panagi, who is running the event, but is also a member of the DMA and the Local Development Corporation.

“It’s becoming very much looked forward to by people,” Panagi said of the yard sale, which is in its third year. “A lot of people turn up for it. People should come early this year because there will be plenty of bargains and treasures to be found.”

The fee for homes to participate in the yard sale is $25, which will go toward the Douglas Manor Environmental Association.

“They will use the money to purchase greenery and trees for the neighborhood,” Panagi said. “It all goes back into the environment.”

Some of the funds will be allocated to the at Udalls Cove.

Items on sale this Saturday will include household furniture, antiques, collectables and bric-a-brac, Panagi said.

The sale’s rain date is May 12 at the same time.

The local, fresh fruit and vegetable market was a worthwhile addition to Douglaston. Obviously, itRead More did not receive the support of the community, at least not enough to make it a successful venture. This is sad. Every Sunday, rain or shine, I would stop at the market and purchase something. My favorite was the bakery stand. Often, when I stopped in the afternoon I would get two FREE French breads with my purchase. Parking was never a problem. The vendors where friendly and very informative. It was a perfect setting for the picturesque nature of this community. Too bad it is not returning.

No specific reason was given other than this was at the initiative of the merchants or the market's organizers. And this..., just as we were beginning to enjoy the Long Island wines and the $34 per pound skirt steak, ordered two months in advance.
