Little Neck McDonald's To Jobseekers: 'You're Hired'

Fast food franchise hosts Hiring Day for local applicants

There was a bit of welcome news for northeast Queens jobseekers at an employment event at the in Little Neck.

Part of a Hiring Day held at thousands of McDonald's restaurants across the U.S. on Monday, employees at the Little Neck franchise of the popular fast food chain set up application stations at its 250-01 Northern Blvd. location.

By 1 p.m. Monday, 19 jobseekers submitted their applications for 10 available part-time positions, according to the Hiring Day event host, Peter Mrakovcic.

Though this latest round of hiring by McDonald's wasn't likely to make a big dent in Queens' 8.3 percent unemployment rate, employees at the restaurant called the event a success.

"Most of the applicants were happy about how the application process went," Mrakovcic said. "It's been generally positive."

Nine more applicants had appointments scheduled for later on that day, according to Oliva Martinez, the restaurant's general manager.

Martinez said she planned to get back to each applicant by 6 p.m. Monday, with all positions expected to be filled by the end of business today.

Most of the applicants hailed from Queens, with a few from Long Island, according to the McDonald's employees on hand to help jobseekers with applications — available in paper form and online.

And the fact that many, if not all, of the applicants for available positions were local residents was just fine for franchise owner Maria Sullivan.

"We're a local store," she said.
