Check out the deals in your neighborhood this holiday weekend.

This week, Frugal Family scoured our local sources to come up with great deals on mattresses, sports apparel, pet services, shoes and entertainment.

Macy’s - 242-02 61st Ave., Douglaston Shopping Plaza

Deal: Macy’s is holding its massive 4th of July mattress sale this weekend. Simmons queen mattress sets are typically $1,029. But right now, they are now on sale for $597. Aireloom Mattress Sets, Vitagenic Preferred Elite Luxetop - regular price, $11,259 - are on sale for $5,997 to 6,997.

Simmons Beautyrest King Mattress Set, New Generation Gel Touch 1000 regularly sells for $5,819, but is now on sale for $3,199. The Martha Stewart Collection By Serta Twin Mattress Set's Vanner Firm Super Pillow top mattress is regularly $3,589. But this weekend, you'll only pay $1,697.

Also, shoppers can get a bonus 26-inch Sharp LCD TV with qualifying mattress sets.

Deal: Take 10 percent off the purchase of $50 or more or get one free carrier when you purchase a new puppy and $100 or more of merchandise. Also, get 10 percent off boarding and free tooth brushing on grooming with this coupon

Modells Sporting Goods - 242-02 61st Ave., Douglaston Shopping Plaza

Deal: Men’s Russell Athletic tees, tanks or muscle shirts are four for $20, while men’s mesh or dazzle shorts are two for $16. Men’s Champion double Dri Tees and active shorts are two for $30 and Polo Club swimming trunks are two for $20. Right now, save $30 on 10x10 canopies, 48-inch in-ground or portable basketball hoops or save $50 on 52-inch hoops.

Aldo Shoes - 211-17 26th Ave., Bayside

Deal: Save up to 50 percent off on select styles including Perlstein sandals for $17.50, Sanie and Wellnitz sandals for $20, Alberda pumps for $29.98 and Belschner pumps for $49.98.

Good Through: Ongoing

FYE - 212-59 26th Ave., Bayside

Deal: Take up to $8 off one admission ticket to see "Green Lantern" in select participating theaters with purchase of two specially-marked DC Comics DVDs. Also, get 30 percent off when you buy three used CDs or DVDs and take 30 to 60 percent off select TV show titles.

Certificate is valid from July 17 through Aug. 21 or until "Green Lantern" leaves theaters.

The local, fresh fruit and vegetable market was a worthwhile addition to Douglaston. Obviously, itRead More did not receive the support of the community, at least not enough to make it a successful venture. This is sad. Every Sunday, rain or shine, I would stop at the market and purchase something. My favorite was the bakery stand. Often, when I stopped in the afternoon I would get two FREE French breads with my purchase. Parking was never a problem. The vendors where friendly and very informative. It was a perfect setting for the picturesque nature of this community. Too bad it is not returning.

Unfortunately, according to the Douglas Manor Association, the fresh fruit and vegetable market willRead More NOT return this year. No specific reason was given other than this was at the initiative of the merchants or the market's organizers. And this..., just as we were beginning to enjoy the Long Island wines and the $34 per pound skirt steak, ordered two months in advance.
