Douglaston Biz Owners Want Coffee Shop to Replace Giftalicious

Douglaston coffee shop closed its doors permanently last month.

Douglaston business owners said they would like to see another coffee shop or eatery replace Giftalicious, which shuttered its doors in July.

The bakery and coffee shop had replaced the Douglaston Market on 235th Street near the community's Long Island Rail Road station in 2012.

Demetra Sirica, the bakery's owner, could not be reached for comment, but she left a note on Giftalicious' door that read "I thank you for all your support. It has been my pleasure to serve our community."

Local store owners said they hoped that a similar type of eatery would take over the location. An employee of one Douglaston business said she had heard a rumor that a Dunkin' Donuts was eyeing the spot.

"We want good food and coffee," said Scott Gramlich, owner of nearby SG Custom Sound. "People are willing to pay more. Money is not the issue here."

Angelo Kouloudakoa, of Station Realty, said the locale was perfect for a coffee shop.

"It's conveniently near the train station and P.S. 98 for drop off in the morning," he said.
