Douglaston Awaits Muni Meter Upgrades

City had originally planned to change meters from one to two-hour time limits in June.

Douglaston residents and business owners said they hoped the city would soon change local Muni Meter time limits from one to two hours.

The city's Department of Transportation had sent a letter to Community Board 11 in early June, saying that the meters at Douglaston Parkway and Northern Boulevard would get two-hour time limits by the end of that month.

Susan Seinfeld, CB 11's district manager, said she has now been told that the meters would be changed in the next few weeks.

"I like it," said Douglas Manor resident Jim Nihan about the new time limits for the meters. "It'll give you extra time if you want to spend time in a restaurant."

Lynne Jaffe, of Doug North Realty, said visits to many of the businesses along Douglaston Parkway required more than an hour.

"You need time if you're going to a nail salon, the National Art League or a restaurant. Plus, the meters are often broken and should be serviced better."
