Coal Fired Pizzeria Coming to Greenvale

Anthony’s Coal Fired Pizza is continuing its Long Island expansion with plans to open a new pizzeria along the busy Northern Boulevard corridor.

Founding partner and Long Island native Anthony Bruno made the announcement last week at the opening of the Great Neck restaurant, the 40th location for the Florida-based chain and fifth on Long Island.

Although no official opening date has been set, Bruno told Patch he expected the Greenvale restaurant to be serving pizza by March 2014.

“The fun part is it’s really about the people,” said another partner, NFL Hall of Fame quarterback Dan Marino. “Anthony started this with one restaurant. I was able to be part of the second. It feels good to create something that’s fun and special and people enjoy.”

The Cord Meter spokeswoman said there was currently no scheduled opening day for the store, but that renovation at the site was underway.

The shop will replace FYE, a DVD and CD store that closed earlier this year.

Gift Shop to Donate 100 Percent of October Profits to Charity

Wit & Whim, a philanthropic gift shop in Port Washington, will donate 100 percent of their profits after expenses during the month of October to the Port Washington Education Foundation, according to Laurie Scheinman the store's creator.

“As we alternate our monthly philanthropies between local, national and international organizations, we chose the PWEF for October as a thank you for all the opportunities they provide for [Port Washington] students," said Scheinman.

The Port Washington Education Foundation is an independent, non-profit, community-based organization which will award 31 educational grants to the Port Washington schools on Oct. 17.

All are invited to a PWEF reception at Wit & Whim on Tuesday, Oct. 15, from 6:30-8:30 p.m.

The Foundation supports initiatives that enhance and expand educational opportunities over and above basic educational needs for all students in the Port Washington public schools. For more information, visit www.PWEF.org.
