Business Association to Host 10th Annual Taste of Bayside on Jan. 23

Attendees will be able to sample food from as many as 25 local eateries.

Northeast Queens residents will be able to get a savory sampling of the best their local eateries have to offer at the 10th annual Taste of Bayside on Jan. 23.

The event, which is held by the Bayside Business Association, will take place from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Adria Hotel and Conference Center, which is located at 221-17 Northern Blvd.

Attendees can pay $30 in advance for tickets or $35 at the door for a vast sampling of food and beverages.

“We’re showcasing the wonderful restaurants in Bayside,” said Judith Limpert, president of the Bayside Business Association. “They typically bring their signature dishes. It’s a good price. For $30, you get to taste a good sampling of our local restaurants.”

Limpert said attendees will be able to get sizable portions from eateries serving Italian, Spanish, Mexican, American, Indian and Greek cuisine.

And she said the event, which is now in its 10th year, is a great way to meet local business owners.

“It’s a great night of networking,” she said. “The event has grown from about 100 people to 400 people. This year, we’re spreading out into three rooms. It’s gotten crowded.”

Restaurants that have already agreed to participate include Bare Burger, Bourbon Street, Cascarino’s, Marbella, Papazzio, Tequila Sunrise and White Castle.

But Limpert said more would sign on as the event nears. Typically, as many as 20 to 25 vendors participate.

Desserts at the event will be offered by Francis Lewis Pastry Shop and Maggie Moo’s.

Beverage vendors include Manhattan Beer, Angry Orchard, Curious Traveler, Primo Vodka, Cacao Prieto and Riazul Tequila.

The local, fresh fruit and vegetable market was a worthwhile addition to Douglaston. Obviously, itRead More did not receive the support of the community, at least not enough to make it a successful venture. This is sad. Every Sunday, rain or shine, I would stop at the market and purchase something. My favorite was the bakery stand. Often, when I stopped in the afternoon I would get two FREE French breads with my purchase. Parking was never a problem. The vendors where friendly and very informative. It was a perfect setting for the picturesque nature of this community. Too bad it is not returning.

Unfortunately, according to the Douglas Manor Association, the fresh fruit and vegetable market willRead More NOT return this year. No specific reason was given other than this was at the initiative of the merchants or the market's organizers. And this..., just as we were beginning to enjoy the Long Island wines and the $34 per pound skirt steak, ordered two months in advance.
