Local Bakery Serves Up More Than Just the Traditional Baked Goods

It is not difficult to find bakeries serving savory treats in Queens. But one that offers goodies that are vegan and dairy, gluten and sugar free is a rarer discovery.

Little Neck's Red Lotus has a smorgasbord of delicious baked goods for those who want to have their cake and eat it too, but with certain dietary restrictions.

The neighborhood bakery and café specializes in cookies, cakes, buns, sweet rolls and pastries. Their traditional menu of cakes include cheesecake, black forest cake, tiramisu with lady fingers, chocolate mousse, cappuccino cake, strawberry shortcake and much more.

Their extensive dairy free, gluten free and vegan menu features some of these same goodies, but without the sugar and gluten. Other gluten free and sugar free products include chocolate macaroons, chocolate brownies and several varieties of biscotti, cookies and cakes.

The vegan menu includes everything from pine nut anise cookies and spiced oatmeal current cookies to tofu jerky, almond hazelnut tofu cheesecake, cranberry nut cake and mint chocolate cake.

The café also serves up fresh soups, breakfast specials, burgers, sandwiches and other dishes daily and provides catering for special events and large parties. A small seating area is available for customers to enjoy their treat with a cup of coffee or tea.

Red Lotus is open Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sundays from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.
