Bistro to Replace Strawberry's Sports Grill
New restaurant expected to open next month at the former site of Darryl Strawberry's eatery.
A new restaurant is expected to open next month in the former site of Strawberry's Sports Grill, just five months after that popular eatery shut its doors permanently.
Smoking Aces Bistro will replace Darryl Strawberry's restaurant on 235th Street near Douglaston's Long Island Rail Road station.
It was unclear why Strawberry decided to shutter his eatery in October, but a spokeswoman for the city's Health Department said at that time that the restaurant's grade was pending.

This week, a sign on the door at the site announced that Smoking Aces would replace Strawberry's.
But the owners of the new bistro could not be reached for comment.

Douglaston community leaders said they had heard that the eatery would open in mid-March.
