Bayside BID's Sept. 22 Sidewalk Sale Will Include Deals from 14 Businesses

Sale on Bell Boulevard will be the first of four to be held this fall.

Northeast Queens residents will be able to find deals on everything from haircuts and jewelry to meals and furniture when the Bayside Village Business Improvement District hosts its first-ever sidewalk sale this weekend.

The BID has put together four sales this fall to draw local residents to businesses along Bell Boulevard.

This weekend’s sale – on Sept. 22 – will take place from noon to 5 p.m. along the shopping strip between Northern Boulevard and 35th Avenue.

The other sidewalk sales will be held on Oct. 27, Nov. 17 and Dec. 8, said Lyle Sclair, the BID’s executive director.

“We want to keep our dollars here, supporting Bayside businesses,” he said. “We want people going into the stores to see everything they have to offer, not just what’s one sale.”

This weekend, Supercuts will offer $2 off haircuts, $5 off color and 20 percent off professional hair care products. Shoppers who buy one will get the second retail purchase at 50 percent off.

Top Shelf Tattooing will offer discounted T-shirts and temporary tattoos as well as 20 percent off gift certificates.

Athena Jewelry will take 40 percent off all stock merchandise, excluding watch batteries and bands.

Bayside EMS Pharmacy will offer 10 percent off over-the-counter medications and hand out Dunkin’ Donuts gift cards with new prescriptions.

The Tuxedo Shop of New York will take $50 off any retail tuxedo, 15 percent off any rental and offer six tuxedos for the price of five.

Papazzio Restaurant will provide free samples of its homemade pasta, while Azure will take 50 to 75 percent off its summer stock. Uncle Jack’s Steakhouse will introduce a new weekend brunch.

Other businesses participating in the sidewalk sale include Erawan Thai Cuisine, Yvette Fashion/Lingerie, VII Wireless, Donovan’s of Bayside, Paradise Furniture and Turn the Page Again Books.

For a complete listing of participating businesses as well as the stores’ addresses, visit the BID’s website.

The local, fresh fruit and vegetable market was a worthwhile addition to Douglaston. Obviously, itRead More did not receive the support of the community, at least not enough to make it a successful venture. This is sad. Every Sunday, rain or shine, I would stop at the market and purchase something. My favorite was the bakery stand. Often, when I stopped in the afternoon I would get two FREE French breads with my purchase. Parking was never a problem. The vendors where friendly and very informative. It was a perfect setting for the picturesque nature of this community. Too bad it is not returning.

Unfortunately, according to the Douglas Manor Association, the fresh fruit and vegetable market willRead More NOT return this year. No specific reason was given other than this was at the initiative of the merchants or the market's organizers. And this..., just as we were beginning to enjoy the Long Island wines and the $34 per pound skirt steak, ordered two months in advance.
