American Flags and Banners Help Beautify Bayside

Bayside Village BID gives Bell Boulevard a patriotic overhaul.

A rainy Tuesday afternoon on Bell Blvd did not stop Gregg Sullivan, executive director of the , from lining both sides of Bell from 35th Ave to Northern Blvd. with patriotic flags and banners.

“Bell has been pretty neglected, and today we’ve given it a face-lift,” said Sullivan.

The project was spearheaded by Sullivan and paid for with funds from the BID as well as private donors. “There are a some businesses in this town that really care and have come up to the plate to sponsor these banners.”

Many business owners were proud of their participation in the beautification program.

“Our flag is out everyday because it’s appropriate and not a lot of people do this,” said Edward Teran, Co-President of American Vision.

John Monahan, of Monahan and Fitzgerald agrees, “We're very proud, it’s good for the community, we all have to work together.”

Some residents were skeptical about the maintenance of the displays. “I just hope they keep up the appearance,” said Sal Khan of Bayside.

This year the flags and banners will be replaced every six months, and next year every four months in accordance with the seasons.

“From now until forever,” said Sullivan, “We will work together to keep Bayside Beautiful,” he added, “All of these businesses are heroes.”
