A slice of Americana

Little Neck's Scobee Diner serves up history alongside classic eats

Many things have changed in Little Neck, but one thing has stayed the same: on Northern Boulevard, where everyone from New York City mayors to former Central Intelligence Agency director George Tenet have sauntered through its halls.

For over 40 years, Little Neck residents have enjoyed all kinds of comfort food any hour of the day from omelets to burgers and tuna melts. But like any long-running eating establishment, the regulars keep coming back not just because of the food, but also because of the people that serve them.

"Here, I get not just quick service, but good service any time of the day,"  said Glen Oaks resident, Alan Sanchez, a para–professional. "I've been coming here for about 10 years now, and I've never been disappointed by the food or the service."

Echoing those sentiments is Armando Morales, the manager of Scobee Diner for the past 22 years.

"We do our best here to have great quality food and keep the diner as clean as possible; and we're always friendly and helpful to our customers," Morales said. "And we try to keep up the high standards no matter the day or time."

As anyone running a dining establishment that's also a neighborhood fixture perhaps knows, families coming to dine are their bread and butter, and at Scobee, they come in droves and generations keep coming back.

Rochelle Walsh has been coming to Scobee Diner since she was a little girl. Today, she brings her own family "I love it here, the service is good, and it's very family friendly," said Walsh, who orders the Ala Scobee, the pasta with sausage.

Good food, good friends and good service is what it's about, according to Scobee Diner regulars.

"Scobee has some of the best pancakes in town," said Sanchez's wife, Melanie, a former Deepdale Gardens resident and current program director of Cherry Lane Gymnastics in New Hyde Park.

Located at 252-29 Northern Blvd. in Little Neck, Scobee Diner is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
