Theatre By The Bay Presents 'Oliver!'

The production is set to debut Saturday at the Bay Terrace Jewish Center.

In its latest creative and dramatic endeavor, Theatre By The Bay, in conjunction with Tams-Wimark Music Library, will put on a production of "Oliver!" in March.

The show, which boasts a cast of 50 performers, will feature 25 child actors, singers and dancers from Queens and Long Island in a number of roles.

The timing of "Oliver!," written by Lionel Bart, which is based on the Charles Dickens classic "Oliver Twist," serves as a celebratory nod to Dickens as 2012 marks the author's 200th birthday.

The show will debut at the on Saturday at 8:30 p.m., with Lawrence F. Bloom, Richard Louis-Pierre and Jessica McCuiston serving as director, musical director and choreographer, respectively.

Along with the theatrical entertainment, Theatre By The Bay will provide audience members the opportunity to do something good for the community with a "Food Glorious Food" drive.

To participate, all theatregoers have to do is bring non-perishable food items for donation. All food collected from each performance will go to City Harvest for use in its distribution efforts.

On March 3, 10 and 17, the show will perform at 8:30 p.m. The performance will be held at 3 p.m. on March 4, 11, 18 and 25.

Question and answer sessions with the cast will take place immediately following the March 11 and 18 shows.

Adult tickets are being sold for $20, while seniors (ages 62 and older) and children (ages 13 and younger) pay a discounted price of $18 per ticket. Tickets can be purchased here, or by calling the office at 718-428-6363.

The local, fresh fruit and vegetable market was a worthwhile addition to Douglaston. Obviously, itRead More did not receive the support of the community, at least not enough to make it a successful venture. This is sad. Every Sunday, rain or shine, I would stop at the market and purchase something. My favorite was the bakery stand. Often, when I stopped in the afternoon I would get two FREE French breads with my purchase. Parking was never a problem. The vendors where friendly and very informative. It was a perfect setting for the picturesque nature of this community. Too bad it is not returning.

No specific reason was given other than this was at the initiative of the merchants or the market's organizers. And this..., just as we were beginning to enjoy the Long Island wines and the $34 per pound skirt steak, ordered two months in advance.
