The well-known actor was in Port Washington and Westbury this week when the Gold Coast Film Fest honored him.

Actor Paul Sorvino, whose starring roles can be seen in “Goodfellas” to “Law and Order,” can now count Gold Coast film fest honoree on his resume.

The actor, who was in Port Washington on Tuesday for the Gold Coast International Film Festival, received the festival’s lifetime achievement award Wednesday at The Space in Westbury, where Susie Essman of HBO’s “Curb Your Enthusiasm” received an artist of distinction award.

At 74, Sorvino, whose upcoming plans include filming an American version of “King Lear,” said he doesn't plan to retire anytime soon.

“Why do I work? Because I can,” he told a well-attended Soundview Cinema in Port Washington Tuesday during a Q&A session following the screening of his new film, "How Sweet it Is," a musical comedy he stars in with Joe Piscopo. “I’d retire to do what? Do imitations and make people laugh? That’s what I do.”

Displaying his versatility, Sorvino switched seamlessly from Southern attorney to Shakespeare character to gritty mobster before a delighted audience.

Acting isn’t his only talent.

He also sculpts, plays piano every day, and sings opera, having starred in “The Most Happy Fella” at Lincoln Center and “Die Fledermaus” at the Seattle Opera House. He is also a Knight of the Italian Republic.

In addition, Sorvino heads up the Paul Sorvino Asthma Foundation. The organization’s mission aims to teach children and adults life-saving breathing techniques for those suffering from asthma.

“My son almost died of it,” Sorvino said. “I got him out of it,” he added, noting that family is “more dear to me than anything else.”
