Queens Films in Academy Awards Lineup

Four Movies Shot in the Borough are in the Running for the Gold

The borough of Queens will be well-represented at the 83rd Academy Awards on Sunday as four films shot in its streets will compete for Oscar gold.

One of the films, “,” nabbed a Best Actress nomination for Nicole Kidman. That movie, directed by John Cameron Mitchell, was primarily shot in Douglaston and Bayside, including sequences in Douglaston Manor and along Bell Boulevard.

Michelle Williams was also given a Best Actress nod for “Blue Valentine,” which featured filming in Astoria, while “Salt,” which also included some scenes in Astoria, picked up a Best Sound Mixing nomination.

“GasLand” is one of the five films nominated for Best Documentary this year. That picture includes an interview with Councilman James Gennaro, D-Fresh Meadows.

But all four films are considered long shots in their respective categories.
