Nominee Predictions for 85th Academy Awards

Check out Bayside Douglaston Patch editor's picks for who will - and should - be nominated in the six top categories.

Oscar host Seth MacFarlane and actress Emma Stone will announce the nominees for the 85th Academy Awards early on Thursday morning.

Below, I’ve listed which actors, actresses and directors I believe will be nominated in the six major categories this year as well as who I believe should get a nod.

The nominees that are bold-faced are the ones I believe should win. Next month, I’ll select who I believe will win.

The Oscar telecast will take place on Feb. 24.

Best Picture

Will Be Nominated: (Anywhere from eight to 10 movies can be selected): Argo, Beasts of the Southern Wild, Django Unchained, Les Miserables, Life of Pi, Lincoln, Moonrise Kingdom, Silver Linings Playbook, Zero Dark Thirty

Should Be Nominated: Amour, Argo, Beasts of the Southern Wild, Django Unchained, Lincoln, The Master, The Perks of Being a Wallflower, Zero Dark Thirty

Would Love to See Nominated, But Have No Chance: Holy Motors, Once Upon a Time in Anatolia

Best Director

The local, fresh fruit and vegetable market was a worthwhile addition to Douglaston. Obviously, itRead More did not receive the support of the community, at least not enough to make it a successful venture. This is sad. Every Sunday, rain or shine, I would stop at the market and purchase something. My favorite was the bakery stand. Often, when I stopped in the afternoon I would get two FREE French breads with my purchase. Parking was never a problem. The vendors where friendly and very informative. It was a perfect setting for the picturesque nature of this community. Too bad it is not returning.

No specific reason was given other than this was at the initiative of the merchants or the market's organizers. And this..., just as we were beginning to enjoy the Long Island wines and the $34 per pound skirt steak, ordered two months in advance.
