The is aiming for a carnivalesque atmosphere with its 17th annual Month of March Members’ Show.
This year’s theme is Viva Mardi Gras, which co-chair Frank Giusto said he expects will draw some colorful submissions.
“It’s a fun theme, so I think we’ll see a lot of variation and different approaches,” he said. “I think we’ll be mildly surprised.”
This Sunday, Giusto and co-chair Ann Bragg will receive 50 to 60 pieces from the Douglaston gallery’s members.
The show will officially kick off on March 5 and a reception will be held from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on March 18.
At that time, awards will be handed out to the show’s first through third-place winners and refreshments will be given to the league’s guests.
Pieces in the exhibit will include masks and costumes made from a variety of materials, fabrics and feathers as well as watercolor and acrylic paintings, Giusto said.
All artworks will be for sale.
The gallery’s April show will be an art raffle and, in May and June, the league will present its 82nd Annual Open Exhibition.
